Sign up for the best available energy prices
1:30pm Sunday 10th March 2013 in Local news
Wharfedale residents are being encouraged to get the best possible domestic energy prices by signing up to form a local co-operative.
Leeds Council has joined with Community Energy Direct (CED), who are based in Leeds, to encourage the development of local Energy Smart Clubs. CED then work with their energy partner Which? to get the best price for those who have signed up.
The scheme was launched on February 18 and residents can register their interest without any commitment.
In April, the scheme will close for new applicants. CED will then work with Which? to source the best offers on price which will involve an auction with energy supply companies and then compared to find the best tariffs.
The prospective prices will be shared with those who have registered. If the new offer is no better than their existing energy deal then they will not switch.
There is no cost to the Council or its residents. To register either call 0845 4502581 or go online at: communityenergy.info The average potential saving is expected to be between £115 and £150 per customer. Those who have switched provider recently may have no benefit in switching but those who have never switched are likely to save the most.
