Call to join in the 1920s fun at Ilkley summer lights show

The Roaring Twenties will be the theme as the popular Ilkley Summer Festival son et lumiere makes its return this August.
Forthcoming Hollywood film The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and All That Jazz will provide inspiration for the show at Mill Ghyll on August 24.
Illuminations and performances in the wooded strip of parkland Mill Ghyll, which lies between Wells Walk and Wells Promenade, were once one of the highlights of the Ilkley Summer Festival and festival managing director Councillor Anne Hawkesworth is hoping townspeople will dress up and join in the festivities this year “I hope visitors and residents alike will dress up. If not the whole hog, a mask would be helpful,” said Coun Hawkesworth. “Now we have the theme, we need the sponsors.”
A lighting scheme, funded by Ilkley’s three ward councillors, is expected to be started shortly. Coun Hawkesworth added: “We handed the project over to the Parish Council as their contacts through Rory Marshall did such a wonderful job with the Jubilee lights.”
