An Ilkley hairdresser is taking her prices back 20 years in a bid to raise money for a scheme which helps people with learning disabilities.
Cathy Brown, whose business launched in its current location two decades ago, will work for her original prices for a day, giving the difference to today’s prices to the Outside the Box cafe which provides work for people with learning disabilities.
Cathy decided to raise money for the scheme, in Bridge Lane, after becoming friends with one of the organisers. “Having become friends with Karen Picken, and hearing of the tireless work she and others do with the LS29 group, and recently the energy and effort they are putting into the Outside the Box cafe, I very much want to help raise awareness of such a brilliant project in any way I can,” she said.
“The idea is my clients pay the current rates for their service, but I only keep what it would have cost them 20 years ago, donating the rest to the project. “ Cathy, who believes the cost 20 years ago would have been about half what it is now, is hoping to raise about £500.
“I just think the project is a brilliant scheme, and it is nice to support an Ilkley charity,” she said. “It is not costing my clients anything, and I will put a box on the counter as well.”
Cathy will mark the 20th anniversary of her salon with the fundraising tomorrow, March 1, at her salon, Infinity Hairdressing, on Skipton Road.
