During the February half-term week, Bethany Smith, of Burley-in-Wharfedale senior section, led baking workshops at Burley-in-Wharfedale Scout and Guide Hut for more than 50 Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

The event, run as part of a project she is doing to promote ‘Buying British’ for her Queen’s Guide Award, was supported by a group of senior section members along with Julie Smith, Jayne Bromley and the district commissioner Sue Vint.

Bethany said: “The children baked a range of British biscuits and savoury goods which included making their own pastry.

“They had great fun while learning lots of new baking skills, and each child received their very own chef’s hat along with a specially-made recipe book.”
