After a busy few months of theatre performances, film showings and even a murder mystery evening Otley Courthouse is looking forward to putting on its first music gig of 2013.

The venue will welcome Gigspanner, pictured above, a trio whose music fuses traditional British song, folk and jazz, on Friday, March 1.

The group are well known for their ability to embrace music from endless genres and cultures, weaving inspiration from around the world into original songs.

Audiences can enjoy guitar playing from Roger Flack, congas and djembe from Vincent Salzfaas, and fiddling by founding member Peter Knight, who folk fans will recognise from his ongoing work with the popular folk-rock group, Steeleye Span.

Songlines Magazine says that in Gigspanner he “has put together a trio...that produce music of intelligently crafted brilliance”.

Tickets for the show range from £6 to £9 and can be booked by calling the box office on (01943) 467466 or visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk.

The Courthouse's musical theme will continue on Saturday, March 2, when the regular Salsa evening, which usually has classes in its first half, will hold a one-off session purely for dancers.

The event is open to dancers of all abilities, from professionals to complete beginners.

Courthouse centre manager Chloe Perry said: “Our Salsa classes are always popular, people in Otley seem to have caught the Latino bug.

“This is a chance for people to come and dance the night away and practice what they’ve learnt in our lessons.”

Tickets cost £5 and can also be booked by calling the box office or visiting the website.
