Ghyll Royd pupils on lookout in bird survey
Pupils at Ghyll Royd School in Burley-in-Wharfedale have been keeping their eyes peeled for wild birds as part of a nationwide wildlife survey.
Children at the school took part in the Big Schools' Birdwatch, which is organised by the RSPB.
Data captured and submitted by children across the country is collated by scientists to give a snapshot of bird numbers and to see how they are faring from year to year.
Results are also used to identify changes in the ecosystem that may affect the bird population.
Schoolchildren are asked to count and identify as many birds as possible in one hour and submit their results online to the RSPB.
Despite bad weather, Reception class and Form 1 children ventured out to count the birds within Ghyll Royd's grounds, at times, like here, taking shelter from the driving rain.
