Airedale smokers in bid to stub out habit
11:00am Sunday 10th February 2013 in Local news
Airedale and Bradford smokers were spurred on by the recent Stoptober campaign – and it proved to be a resounding success.
More smokers than ever sought the support of the local NHS stop smoking service.
There was a big increase on the numbers seeking help to stop smoking during last October compared with the previous year.
The Stoptober campaign urged smokers to stop for the full month. Research has shown that those smokers who manage to stop for a month are more likely to carry on and become non-smokers for good.
Lorraine Wolfenden, manager of the stop smoking service, said: “We know that getting the support from a trained stop-smoking advisor and using stop- smoking medications means you’re up to four times more likely to stop smoking for good.
“Stoptober has proved to be very successful.
“We’re here all year round for any smoker who is thinking of stopping smoking.
“Even if you have tried before and not managed that time, with the help and support of your local stop-smoking service you can do it!”
