Retired consultant takes on senior Airedale NHS trust role

A retired consultant in chemical pathology is joining the helm of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust this month as a new non-executive director.

Dr Michael Toop, who managed the chemical pathology department at Harrogate Hospital for 25 years, also has an interest in diabetes and hyperlipidaemia. He will be replacing Jeff Colclough, who retired as a non-executive director on January 31 after seven years at Airedale.

Colin Millar, chairman of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Dr Toop. He will be a strong addition to our board and will bring with him a breadth of clinical knowledge from his successful medical career alongside management and leadership expertise.”

Dr Toop said: “I am looking forward to joining the board of this award winning hospital at what is a particularly challenging time for the NHS and local healthcare economy generally. I hope to be rather like a critical friend to both challenge and support my executive colleagues.”
