A fundraising walker has made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, raising more than £4,500 for charity, following many up and downs.
Addingham’s Jon Shaw decided to climb the 19,341ft African peak in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society, to mark his 50th birthday this year, and as a tribute to his late father-in law.
To help him raise the £3,900 sponsorship for the trek, he took the unusual step of taking part in an all-day rollercoaster ride at North Yorkshire theme park Lightwater Valley in October.
Mr Shaw had 26 rides on The Ultimate, the world’s second-longest rollercoaster, which climbs up to 107ft at its highest point.
He also held a race night in Addingham to boost the fundraising total.
Mr Shaw took part in the Kilimanjaro trek along with a party of other walkers raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society.
“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but along the way I have made some great new friends and pushed myself to my limits,” said Mr Shaw.
