Otley's MP has welcomed the appointment of a new independent adjudicator who will help farmers and suppliers receive fair treatment from supermarkets.
Christine Tacon, in her role as Groceries Code Adjudicator, will enforce the new Groceries Supply Cofe of Practice – which regulates how affairs should be conducted between the ten largest supermarket chains, farmers and suppliers.
Greg Mulholland said the move should mean a “fairer deal” for suppliers.
He said: “Farmers and suppliers in Leeds North West are in an unfair fight with the big supermarkets. Many receive unfair prices for their produce and are struggling to stay in business. This damages our local community and our local economy.
“A vibrant community needs farmers and suppliers like ours here, and they deserve a fair deal.”
