Heavy snow closed down several schools in the Ilkley area and flights were suspended at Leeds Bradford Airport this morning.

The heavy snowfall overnight and into this morning has seen several inches of snow build up on side roads and residential streets, although main roads remained clear.

Primary schools in Addingham, Ben Rhydding, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston are closed for the day, and most of Ilkley Grammar School was also given the day off.

External examinations are going ahead in the Cowpasture Road school’s sports hall.

Flights were suspended on Monday morning and into early Monday afternoon, as staff worked to clear snow from the runway. Some flights were cancelled, while others were diverted or indefinitely delayed.

The airport advised passengers to contact their airline or tour operator and check the status of their flight before arriving at the airport.
