Wharfedale musicians and venues urged to enter UK competition
10:36am Friday 18th January 2013 in Local news
Musicians and small venues in Wharfedale and Aireborough are being invited to enter Rock the House 2013.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) is keen to see local entrants excel again after Marc Ottaway, from Yeadon, came second in the solo act category and Korks Wine Bar in Otley, finished third in the best venue section last year.
Designed to celebrate up-and-coming UK artists and venues, the competition is open to anyone and is split into five categories – solo artist, band, under 19 solo artist, under 19 band, and best small live music venue.
Applications can be made online by visiting rockthehousehoc.com before March 1.
Mr Mulholland will nominate his favourite acts for each category, which will then be put before a judging panel of experts who will choose the finalists.
He said: “Rock the House is a great opportunity for aspiring artists.”
Finalists will compete in a live battle of the bands, with the winner of each category performing live on the balcony of the House of Commons on June 26.
