Age UK launches appeal for unwanted Christmas gifts to help elderly

Christmas presents gathering dust can be used to brighten up 2013 for the elderly.

The charity Age UK is appealing for unwanted gifts to help older people in need.

The presents can be handed in to any of Age UK’s shops, including the Guiseley store.

Guiseley manager Julie Paley said: “By donating unwanted Christmas gifts to our shop people will be helping a great cause. The money raised through Age UK’s shops goes to supporting the charity’s vital work for older people, so we are urging everyone in the area to de-clutter their homes and make a real difference to an older person. We need quality stock.”

Money raised by Age UK will help the charity to provide services such as lunch clubs and home safety checks, as well as work such as its free advice line and campaigns. Age UK works to influence politicians and decision makers on issues that affect older people, such as pensions, care and fuel poverty.
