Otley show travels in footsteps of Alfred Wainwright
10:00am Sunday 13th January 2013 in Local news By Jim Jack
John Burland as Alfred Wainwright
An Otley man will bring his dramatic shows about the life of famous fellwalker Alfred Wainwright to Menston and Guiseley this year.
John Burland has given 26 performances of his one-man show – focusing on the life and works of the late guide-book writer – since making his debut presentation, in Ilkley, in 2009.
Mr Burland, the founder of the Wainwright Society, has also raised thousands of pounds for various local and international charities through holding the talks.
He will start off his 2013 itinerary in Burnley at the end of January, but his first local performance of the year takes place at Menston Methodist Church at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 26.
That show costs £3, on the door, with proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.
Mr Burland will perform at Guiseley Methodist Church for Aireborough Historical Society, meanwhile, at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 9, when tickets (including refreshments) will cost £5 and the profits will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
