Ilkley resident celebrates her 100th birthday
The Lord Mayor of Bradford joined well-wishers at an Ilkley residential home to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Ethel Clamp, pictured.
Family and friends put on a party and she received a congratulatory message from the Queen.
Born in 1912 in Coalville, Leicestershire, where she lived for 70 years, she married Thomas Wilfred Clamp, a carpenter, in June 1936. They had two children, John and Jo.
Mrs Clamp moved to Ash Grove in Ilkley in 1986 after the death of her husband to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, Matthew, Richard and Joanna. She took up bridge and became a keen member of the local bridge club.
Mrs Clamp lived in Ash Grove until she was 97, when she moved into Homecroft Residential Home.
She has always had an interest in clothes and shoes and one of her pet phrases is: “If I look my age, I am not going!”
