Two teenage musicians have won places in the National Youth Orchestra.

Percussionists Jake Brown, 17, from Horsforth, and Tom Pritchard, 15, from Guiseley, will be joining the NYO for its 2013 season.

The orchestra gives 170 of the most talented teenage musicians from across the UK the chance to develop their skills with specialist tutors and perform under the baton of world-class conductors.

Jake and Tom make up half of the percussion section of City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, which is providing five players to the NYO this year Jake said: “I ’m very excited for the year ahead, especially the challenge and responsibility that comes as principal percussion. All the tutors are very supportive and really help us to improve as players.”

He added: “CLYO has had such a huge impact on me. From the age of ten it has given me the opportunity to play lots of fantastic pieces and has been integral to developing the skills I need for NYO.”
