An MP has asked for Government assurances that anyone who comes forward with allegations of child abuse will be listened to.
Horsforth and Aireborough’s MP, Stuart Andrew, stressed the need to support victims during a debate in the House of Commons.
Mr Andrew welcomed a state-ment from the Home Secretary, Theresa May, about investigations into child abuse allegations in North Wales He said: “As a Leeds MP, it has been sad to see how the Jimmy Savile allegations have rocked people’s trust.
“As a councillor in Wrexham at the time of the [North Wales] inquiry, I remember how it sent shockwaves throug the community.
“Even after the inquiry, there was considerable angst among people in the area about the appalling things that had happened.”
