Art lovers were challenged to find pub names hidden in paintings at an Addingham exhibition.

About 40 talented entrants took part in the Wharfedale Artists’ exhibition at Adding-ham Methodist Church Hall on Saturday and Sunday, displaying work in acrylic, oils, watercolour, collage, pencil, pastel and charcoal.

But their recent joint project, entitled Cheers, formed a special talking point for visitors taking part in a quiz at the event.

A total of 35 canvasses went on display, each representing the name of a pub. This formed the basis of a Name That Pub quiz.

The exhibition raised more than £570 from the sale of refreshments, a raffle, the quiz, book sale, donations on the day and ten per cent commission on all work sold at the exhibition.

Funds will be split between Addingham Methodist Church and Leeds General Infirmary Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

Wharfedale Artists consists of several groups that meet in Addingham for tutored classes taken by local artist, Susan Foster-Ross.
