Oscar-winning Iranian film at Ilkley Playhouse

The first Iranian film ever to win an Oscar is Ilkley Film Society’s next presentation in Ilkley Playhouse at 8pm on Sunday.

A Separation is a gripping and superbly-acted drama about what happens in present-day Iran when a couple’s marriage breaks down, and the effect this has on their young daughter, who is forced to make a heart-breaking decision.

The director was initially banned from making the film by the Iranian government, but as well as its Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, it has won another 72 festival prizes and critics’ awards.

Tickets for those who are not members of the Film Society are £4, and can be reserved by contacting Richard Fort on (01535) 653471. Visit ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk for further information about this season’s programme.
