A supermarket-run community scheme that has supported good causes in Otley to the tune of £48,000 is celebrating its fourth anniversary.

The town’s Waitrose store has helped 144 charities and community groups since starting Community Matters four years ago.

Run by Waitrose employ-ees, the project asks shop-pers to decide through a token voting system how much of £1,000 per month should go to each of three different beneficiaries.

Representatives from some of the charities and organisations that have benefited joined with Otley’s Community Matters team and branch manager Peter Gibb to mark the anniversary, and Otley’s carnival queen Poppy Roberts cut a commem-orative cake.

Application forms for Community Matters can be picked up at the store.
