TWELVE Ilkley Grammar School students competed in the area final of the National Mock Trial Competition, which took place at Bradford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, March 21.
The competition, which has been running annually since 1994, introduces the legal system to young people in an innovative way.
In the roles of lawyers, witnesses, magistrates and court staff, students prosecute and defend specially written criminal cases, in front of real magistrates.
This was the first time the school had taken part in the annual competition and they finished in third place.
Citizenship teacher, Graeme Stonehouse, said: “Their (pupils) conduct on the day itself was a credit to the school, as has been their effort and commitment.”
