Schoolchildren climbed high to win second place in a city-wide contest.

Pupils from Benton Park, in Rawdon, retained second place in the Leeds Wall inter-school climbing competition.

The event consisted of 16 pupils completing various bouldering and belay routes.

Katie Williams, who narrowly missed out on first place for the female under-15s category, said: “I am delighted with second place. The girl who came first fully deserved it.”

Isabelle Mercer came second in the under-14 category while Alex Smith was described as ‘outstanding’ in his performance coming first in his speed climb.

Other successes involved Aidan Cable coming third and Tom Noel-Flint second in their respective categories.

Teacher Wayne Yeadon said: “It was a fantastic day and all the students involved should be extremely proud of their achievements.”
