Eight students from St Mary’s School in Menston have been chosen to be Young Ambassadors for the school.

As valued and committed members of the Sports Leaders Academy, becoming a Young Ambassador will enable the students to develop their leadership skills further.

The National Young Ambassadors project is run by the Youth Sport Trust and the St Mary’s students will be linked to this project through school.

Young Ambassadors are the most outstanding Sports Leaders in schools and are selected due to their sporting talent, and, more importantly, due to their exceptional commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers.

The Young Ambassador programme seeks to develop young leaders and volunteers further by providing them with the responsibility of being an ambassador for PE and school sport.

The students will form a vital link between the students and teachers from primary schools who are part of the Bishop Wheeler Academic Trust.

PE Teacher at St Mary’s, Barbara Pounder, said: “Providing opportunities for and encouraging young people to develop their social skills and knowledge is indeed the privilege of any teacher. St Mary’s are delighted to be able to provide our Young Ambassadors with this opportunity.”
