Proposals to brick up Station Road loos

Town councillors are asking Bradford Council to “brick up” disused public toilets amid repeated calls to re-open them.

Ilkley Parish Council this week agreed to write to the local authority asking for the toilets at the front of the King’s Hall in Station Road to be walled up.

The facility has been closed for a number of years, and estimates have indicated it would cost tens of thousands of pounds to refurbish them.

There have previously been calls for them to be re-opened as there are no public toilets in nearby Ilkley Railway Station.

But Councillor Mike Ridgway made the proposal at the parish council’s meeting on Monday night, and it was unanimously agreed.

He said councillors could otherwise be debating the matter for years to come, amid health and safety issues and the large cost of renovation.
