A charity fundraising committee raised more than £5,000 for two good causes at a golf day.

Ilkley and Harrogate-based Acorn held its annual charity golf day, hosted by Ilkley Golf Club, last month.

The event raised a total of £5,200 for two charities – supporting people with dementia and their carers in the Harrogate and Ripon area and for research into scleroderma disease at Leeds General Infirmary.

The day began with a shotgun start and 80 golfers took part in the event, which was followed by a dinner. The winning team was Duchy Originals, made up of Callum Johnston, Anthony Comerford, Simon Foreman and Maria Dawson of the Acorn Committee. Runners-up were Dementia Forward, consisting of Mike Sleath, Philip Lees, Mark Rudolph and Neil Crawford.

The Burton Leonard Bogies – Mike Crawshaw, John Crompton, John O’Kane and Mark Allen – came third. Other prizes were Nearest the Pin in Two Shots which was won by Dave Aitkin, Nearest the Pin by Lee Barnes and the Longest Drive by John Byron. Prizes for the event were donated by Chris Walshaw of Byron and Brown, Dave Kinsey of the Kinsey Partnership, David and Amanda Brayshaw of Low Graythwaite Hall and Ilkley Golf Club.
