Car park sell-off talks take place

Speculative talks on a possible sell-off of Bradford Council-owned car parks have taken place.

The potential transfer from local authority owner-ship of two small car parks and a flower garden in Addingham was discussed in a meeting between a Bradford Council officer, parish council chairman Catherine Coates and Councillor Alan Jerome.

Councillor Coates told the parish council last week they were asked if the council would be interested in taking on a car park in Bolton Road and a smaller one next to the medical centre. But it was unclear if the district council was wanting to sell the land.

She said: “The officer hadn’t asked the right question of the other departments in Bradford, so he wasn’t sure if they were going to sell them.”

Coun Jerome said there would be huge opposition in the village to converting car parks in Addingham to any other use, especially as there was limited spaces available in the area.

Coun Coates added: “They’re obviously wanting to sell bits of land, so we’ve left it at that, but we said we would rather take it on than lose any car park.”
