Would-be sailors are being invited to ‘Have a Go’ sessions at Yeadon Tarn.

A number of sessions are being hosted by Yeadon Sailing Club and the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre.

Yeadon Sailing Club, which prides itself on being friendly and family-orientated, has recently won national recognition as a RYA Volvo Champion Club. And it will be opening up its facilities to the public every Tuesday evening until August 14.

“Sailing is a great family sport, where both young and old can learn and sail together,” said Yeadon Vice-Commodore, Jo Lee.

“We also have a very successful and thriving junior training programme within the club for youngsters who want to take their sailing to a higher, competitive level.”

“The Tuesday night sessions are very popular,” said Commodore Tim Burnett. “If people are keen and want to formalise their training, then the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre next door can take beginners on further by offering Level 1 and Level 2 dinghy courses.”

The Sailing and Activity Centre, which is also accredited as an RYA Training and OnBoard Centre, is also holding junior ‘Have a Go’ sessions. The next evening session – for youngsters aged between eight and 16 – is between 6pm and 8pm on July 5.
