Veteran footballers set for match to raise cash for leukaemia charity
3:53pm Thursday 24th May 2012 in News
Veteran footballers will clash for charity in Otley on the first June Bank Holiday.
Otley Fossils FC will play FC Birmingham Badgers at Otley Town FC, on Pool Road, at 2pm, on Monday, June 4.
Proceeds from the match will be split equally between Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and St Nicholas World Development Group, a Birmingham-based charity that relieves poverty overseas.
Organiser and Badgers player Ian Cormack, who describes himself as an “exiled Brummie”, said: “Many of the Badgers players are Aston Villa fans and it was agreed by all that they wanted to show support for Aston Villa FC captain Stiliyan Petrov, who was recently diagnosed with leukaemia.
“This will be the fifth time the Badgers have played in Otley, but will be the first game against the Fossils.
“Since 2002 the games have raised more than £1,000 for various charities, and both teams are hoping that this year will break previous fundraising records.”
