MP’s seeks assurances on passport checks
11:00am Saturday 12th May 2012 in News
Ilkley’s MP has said UK Border Force staff should be allowed as much time as they need to check passports in order to properly secure the country’s borders.
Kris Hopkins was responding to a statement from Immigration Minister Damian Green, made in the wake of the complaints about the length of queues at immigration desks at Heathrow.
Mr Hopkins said: “The British public have not forgiven the previous Labour Government for their reckless open-door immigration policy, which reached the point where they could not put a number on how many people had come into the country.”
He asked Mr Green: “Will you reassure us we will give our officers as much time as they require to check who is legally allowed to enter the country?”
The Immigration Minister replied: “Yes, and not only will we give them the time required, but we will allow them to use, on all occasions, the relevant technology.”
