A 20-year-old Yeadon man has died after being struck by a car when he stopped in a layby for a toilet break.
The man, who has not yet been named, was involved in a collision near the Red Bus Cafe on the A64 near Leeds at 10.45pm on Saturday.
An ambulance was called and reported to police that the man had died from his injuries.
Traffic police are today appealing for witnesses to the fatal accident.
A spokesman said: “The man had been part of a group travelling back from York to Leeds in a mini-bus which had stopped at the layby so passengers could take a toilet break. He was struck by a black Vauxhall Astra which was travelling towards York. The woman driver stopped at the scene and has been spoken by officers.”
