A new community environmental group joined forces with young volunteers to make Guiseley a tidier place.

The Friends of Parkinson Field were helped by youngsters with special needs to complete a litter pick on Tuesday.

The young people, from the Aireborough Summer Activities Scheme, helped volunteers from the new group to tidy up Parkinson’s Field, a piece of publicly owned ground above Netherfield Road.

A total of 14 volunteers filled seven bags of litter and everyone who took part was presented with a certificate afterwards. The group had received a £50 grant through the CSV Action Earth campaign, sponsored by Morrisons. The grant was used to pay for gloves, bin bags, a pick up stick, refreshments and a galvanised bin.

Organisers are hoping the event will be the first of many to improve and develop the area for local people and encourage wildlife and conservation.
