War dead will be remembered as communities pay their respects

Civic dignitaries, ex-servicemen and other members of the community will gather together this Sunday to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in times of war.

Churches and war memorials throughout the area will mark Remembrance Sunday with services, and the laying of wreaths at war memorials.

Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, close to November 11, which marks the anniversary of the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front in the First World War.

But the day has come to mark the remembrance of those lost, both members of the armed forces and civilians, in the Second World War and conflicts right up to the present day.

Commemorations will take place in the area to servicemen who have died in more recent conflicts.
