A Wharfedale MP is backing calls for changes to satellite navigation systems to stop lorries being sent on dangerously unsuitable routes.
Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland signed an Early Day Motion last Friday calling for Government regulation of sat navs to ensure they always take account of a vehicle’s height, width and length.
Mr Mulholland believes forcing manufacturers to include those measurements would stop lorries being sent along narrow country roads around Pool-in-Wharfedale and Otley.
He said: “The Government has failed to sufficiently regulate the booming sat-nav industry in the past.
“Large vehicles can cause chaos when they are sent down narrow, unsuitable roads and the situation at Old Pool Bank, for example, highlights this.
“We could solve the problem by ensuring that sat-navs take account of the height, width and length of the vehicle before selecting a route.”
