THE ROTARY Clubs of Ilkley saw how some of their money was being spent when members visited the Nell Bank activity centre.

Rotarians have helped with funding for an assault course at the Ilkley centre which caters for schools throughout the Bradford District.

A total of 45 people took part in the trip including Ilkley’s mayor and mayoress Stephen and Kate Butler, and representatives from Tesco, Ison Harrison Solicitors, and the Advanced Actuators Limited Silsden.

A Rotary spokesman said: “The party had a tour and talk from Dan Goodey the Centre Manager. We visited the site of the under 8s assault course which Rotary has contributed towards.

“Working with The Nell Bank Centre has proved great for businesses and organisations helping to achieve specific capital type projects to completion like the under 8 assault course. Ilkley Tesco Staff ( a Rotary Corporate Partner ) are to assist with the building and preparing of this assault course as well. Staff can play a key part in changing lives and will have a great time in the process.

“Teams will expand their skills and pick up a few new ideas on the way making colleagues more confident and competent. As well as developing their professional focus, staff will be helping others through worthwhile Rotary projects.

“The assisted place scheme helps all children regardless of the ability to pay to attend the centre. 20,000 young people each year from most schools in the Bradford area attend the centre to learn and explore in this beautiful environment.

“The annual business quiz and Holly Ball raises money to support specific projects and the charitable organisation concerned attend these events. Ison Harrison Solicitors sponsor the business quiz which enables Rotary to raise almost £1000 each year and the event is growing in popularity. This year’s event takes place at Ilkley Rugby Club on Thursday, November 29. These events are also about creating partnerships between Rotary, Business and charity organisations creating effective community service for the Ilkley area.”

The annual Holly Ball takes place in the Kings Hall on Saturday, December 15, and offers an evening of fine food and drink as well as live music. The Rotary Club of Ilkley is thanking local businesses which have donated prizes for the charity raffle.
