THE ROYAL Armouries in Leeds is promising visitors an 'action-packed' Wild West Horse Show this month.

The Atkinson Action Horses will be performing their 'boot-stomping, gun-slinging, stunt-riding' Wild West spectacular in the museum's outdoor arena from Saturday, August 25 to Bank Holiday Monday, August 27.

The team, famed for their work on television and film including Poldark, Peaky Blinders and Victoria, will be putting on shows at noon and 3pm over the three days.

The highlights look set to include sharp-shooting, trick-riding, liberty displays and a stage coach battle, complete with stirrup drags and daring horse to carriage transfers.

The museum’s Legends series, meanwhile, will also take place over the Bank Holiday weekend when it will be celebrating Buffalo Bill, the legendary American scout, bison hunter and showman.

The event will include storytelling for children and adults, live-action performances, combat demonstrations, music, film and activities for all ages to enjoy.

Other upcoming events in the Legends series will include weekends inspired by skilled archer and Indian hero Arjuna (September 15 and 16), the King of Norway who battled for the English throne, Harald Hardrada (October 13 and 14), fierce Celtic Queen Boudicca (November 24 and 25) and legendary leader of medieval myth, King Arthur (December 29 to 31).

Events and Informal Learning Manager at the Royal Armouries, Mark Jackson, said: "We are delighted to welcome back Atkinson Action Horses to our outdoor arena.

"The horse shows promise to be a real spectacle, Atkinson’s are some of the best riders in the business and the shows will include all the high-octane stunts you see in old western blockbusters.

"The weekend will be full of activities for all of the family to enjoy, including action-packed outdoor Wild West stand-offs, have-a-go sessions and much more."

Tickets for the Wild West Horse Show cost £6 per adult, £3.50 per child or £15 for a family. For more details visit www.royalarmouries.org/event/wild-west-show/ .
