VISITORS will be able to see some of Norwood Methodist Church's latest developments at a garden party and open day next month.

The chapel and retreat centre, which overlooks Lindley Wood Reservoir, is undergoing a number of changes as it celebrates its 92nd anniversary.

Its adjacent cottage has recently been redecorated while the retreat's kitchen is in the process of being extended and its toilet enlarged and made fully accessible.

Members of the public are invited to pop in for a look between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday, August 26.

Rev Philip MacDonald has been invited to lead a church anniversary service at 2.30pm, which will be followed by refreshments.

Visitors will also get a chance to become some of the first Friends of Norwood - a new support scheme that is launching on the day.

Friends will pay an annual fee and be able to help with both activities at the centre and jobs including gardening, maintenance and cleaning.

They will also receive regular updates about what's happening at the church.

Further development plans for this year, meanwhile, include removing pews from the sanctuary and installing more comfortable seating along with a new floor covering.

The chapel is also to be redecorated.
