AN evening of mirth, merriment and song is in store at Horsforth Choral Society’s summer concert this month. The choir will perform a light-hearted programme of old English folk songs and traditional madrigals, with a café-style concert at St Chad’s Parish Centre, Headingley, LS16 5JT, on Friday, July 20 at 7.30pm. Concert-goers are invited to bring a picnic and buy a drink at the bar. The varied programme will include folk music arranged by well-known composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as lesser known 16th and 17th century drinking and smoking songs from across Europe. The choir’s Musical Director, Matthew Lazenby, said: “We wanted to offer something a bit different for our summer concert this year, and look forward to showcasing some traditional English and European music in the form of madrigals, partsongs and rounds.”

Tickets are available on the door, from Yorkshire College of Music and Drama tel 0113 243 1605, or from MC Consumables (Town Street Horsforth); £8 adults, £5 students. Admission is free to under 18s.
