STAFF at an Otley Care Home are celebrating receiving an official Good rating.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected Tealbeck House, which cares for up to 50 residents, in May and concluded that the employees were 'kind, caring and compassionate'.

Care homes are now rated in a similar way to schools, and classed as Outstanding, Good, Requiring Improvement or Inadequate.

Home Manager at Tealbeck House, Louise Bulcock, said everyone at the Anchor home was thrilled with its Good rating.

She said: "We have worked hard to make Tealbeck House a good care home but to be given such praise from the regulator is wonderful.

"We are proud of our meals, which are made from fresh seasonal ingredients, and the high levels of training and support our staff receive.

"We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes are the best in the country.

"We’re so pleased to be classed as a good care home - we’ll be celebrating this success."

The CQC inspection report, which can be found on the regulator’s website, noted that: "One relative we spoke with told us 'when we took (resident's name withheld) out to a restaurant for their birthday meal they said they preferred the food at Tealbeck House!

"She loves the food here, and when we are here staff ask us if we want anything as well."

The report adds that another person the inspectors spoke to said: "I like living here, people are nice, the food is lovely, the furniture is lovely, and my bed is lovely so what more could you want?"
