A REUSABLE coffee cup bearing the name of Otley has been presented to the head of the Environmental Audit Committee.
Otley Town Council Chair Ray Georgeson gave the MyOtleyCup to Labour MP Mary Creagh at the Resourcing the Future 2018 conference in London.
The council launched the MyOtleyCup scheme, to promotes the use of reusable, bamboo coffee cups branded with a MyOtleyCup logo, in April.
Councillor Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield), who was at the conference in his capacity as Chief Executive of the Resource Association, said: "Mary’s been a key voice in drawing attention to the need to tackle disposable coffee cup waste and we’re taking action to help.
"I took the opportunity to present her with a MyOtleyCup while at the conference, where she chaired a session on plastics recycling, single-use plastics and future policy that I was speaking in.
"I took the chance to brief her about our local action and she was impressed that we have sold so many cups in a few weeks - nearly 300 in seven weeks since the launch.
"It was one of those great days where my worlds collide!"
