BAKERS young and old are invited to the Ilkley Great Get Together ‘Bake Off’ competition on June 2 at the Ilkley Baptist Church.

Ilkley’s keenest cake-makers can enter three categories in the competition which is to be judged by local bakers Love Brownies, Copper Spoon Cakery and Bettys.

The Bake Off is being organised by the team from the Ilkley Great Get Together Big Lunch & Street Party who are asking entrants to bring their cakes to the Ilkley Baptist Church for 9am with judging at 10am.

Becky Malby from the team said: “The Great Get Together is a community event and what better way to get to know people than to bake and share cake. Anyone can enter but everyone should be prepared to share their cake after the judging!”

There are three categories for budding bakers to enter:

1. Four Great Get Together Fairy Cakes - children's competition: four identical fairy cakes that capture the Great Get Together theme. Judge: Love Brownies and prize of box for four brownies and points tote bag.

2. A Picnic on a Plate - four homemade picnic items, two savoury and at least one cake, that a young person has made with an older person (retirement age). This one is a two-person entry. Judge: A baking expert from Bettys and prize of Afternoon Tea for two at the Ilkley Café Tea Rooms

3. The Ilkley Great Get Together Show Stopper - Adult competition: Let your imagination run riot and provide a delicious sponge cake with at GGT theme. Judge: Alice Pearson, Copper Spoon Cakery and prize of 12 bespoke Bundt Cakes

The Bake Off is the warm-up event ahead of the Ilkley Big Lunch & Street Party which takes place on the Grove on Sunday, June 24 from noon to 6pm.

Becky added: “We’d love to see lots of people at our Bake Off. Tea and coffee will be served as well, as lots of cake, and we will be entertained by the Two Rivers Band who are having an open rehearsal that morning. You’ll receive a warm welcome for all the team!”
