THE Two Rivers Swing Band is giving a concert at Baildon Methodist Church on Saturday, May 19, starting at 7.30pm.

All profits will go to the charity Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) whose medical teams act fast to save people’s lives in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics.

They will be playing a selection of instrumental and vocal favourites from the Big Band era including Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on My Mind”, Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing” and of course Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood”.

The audience will also be treated to a composition and a brand new arrangement by their Musical Director, local jazz trumpeter Trevor Vincent.

Wesleys Community Cafe will provide refreshments in the interval.

Tickets cost just £5 (under 16s free). They are available from Wesleys Cafe at the Church, from any band member or by emailing: ask2rivers@icloud.com.

Les Goldman, the chairman of Two Rivers Bands said: “Our band rehearses every week in Baildon so we’re delighted to have the chance to perform there.

“We’re also proud to be raising money for a charity that does such important work. We hope to have a big audience and are sure everyone will have a great evening.”

Audience reaction to the band’s most recent performance at their dance held at Ilkley Winter Garden in March was certainly enthusiastic.

Feedback included: “Thanks for a brilliant evening. The band were fantastic and everyone had fun”.

Two Rivers Swing Band is thriving with over 20 members, all enthusiastic amateur musicians.

The band would particularly welcome more trombone and trumpet players.

You can find out more about them, and about the larger Two Rivers Concert Band on their website www.tworiversbands.org.uk.

Last year the two bands raised an impressive total of over £2,300 for the charities they support.
