PUPILS at Burley and Woodhead Primary School turned into detectives for the day, as part of their celebration of National Science Week.

The kidnap and ransom of Big Ted led to the whole school embarking on a day of scientific experiments, data analysis and investigation. Children from all year groups were trained to identify, record and recover forensic evidence, including fingerprint, footprint, handwriting and lip-mark data. Officers from Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team joined the children in the afternoon, helping to hone in on a suspect who was then taken away for further questioning.

British Science Week, celebrated this year from March 9-18 2018, is a nationwide celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Science leader, Mrs Helen Whitaker, who organised the whole day said: “Participation in Science Week is a fantastic opportunity for our school to celebrate exploration and discovery. I had great fun organising and leading the day with our Science leaders from Years 4, 5 and 6. The whole school loved the opportunity to see how scientific investigation could have a real impact on everyday life. "Having the support of the Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team helped to make the day that bit more true to life.”

Luckily, the "culprit" returned Big Ted and all was forgiven at the end of the day.
