A TRIO of local TV presenters will end a 'mammoth' fundraising challenge in Otley this month.

Harry Gration, Amy Garcia and Paul Hudson are preparing to transport the BBC Look North sofa across the region for Sport Relief.

Setting off from Birstall on Thursday, March 15, the group will follow a route that includes the North Yorkshire coastline and the wilderness of the Peak District.

The cities of Leeds, Sheffield, York and Bradford will all be visited too before the trio finish the fundraiser, 100 miles later, at Otley on Thursday, March 22.

The challenge will see the presenters pushing, pulling and dragging the sofa - which has been adapted for the event by Leeds City College students

Harry Gration said: "One hundred miles and fifty places around Yorkshire - all to celebrate 50 years of BBC Look North.

"It’s something different but the sofa is synonymous with Look North.

"Pulling it isn’t going to be easy but I’m looking forward to exploring the region, particularly the route from Filey to Scarborough as I love that area.

"And I always enjoy getting out and about to meet our viewers, that’s what it’s all about. "

Co-presenter Amy Garcia said: "This is going to be quite a challenge but it’s the perfect way to celebrate Look North’s 50th anniversary.

"It’s going to be hard work though, as the sofa is a lot heavier than we thought.

"We would love our viewers to come out along the route and support us."

BBC Look North weather presenter Paul Hudson added: "Both our previous challenges - the tandem bike ride and the three-legged challenge - were really successful and this challenge will once again raise money for Sport Relief.

"I think this one is going to be really tough though, particularly the bit from Stanage Edge to Hathersage, in Derbyshire.

"I'm sure Harry will be laid down on the sofa while Amy and I do all the hard work!"

As well as raising money for Sport Relief 2018 the challenge will mark the 50th anniversary of BBC Look North, which made its first broadcast on March 25, 1968.

This year's Sport Relief week runs from March 17 to 23 and will raise money for projects that help vulnerable people in the UK and overseas.
