VOLUNTEERS for a breast cancer charity have been putting their heads together to keep patients cosy during their chemotherapy treatment this winter.

Supporters of Breast Cancer Haven Yorkshire have been knitting and crocheting hats to provide a bit of added warmth for women with the disease whilst raising funds for the charity.

The 'Be Cosy' knitted hat appeal is the brainchild of Soraya Usman of Thorner, Leeds, and is being supported by knitters and crocheters from across Yorkshire, including Guiseley and District Women’s Institute.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "A number of other WIs in West Yorkshire, including Farnley Tyas, Holmfirth, Kirkhamgate, Kirkheaton, Meltham and Stocksmoor have also supported Breast Cancer Haven with donations, including £200 from Guiseley WI from their strawberry tea event earlier this year and a whopping £5,390 from Horbury WI which last year set out to raise enough funds to support another five women through the programme when it saw five of its own members attend Breast Cancer Haven as patients.

"Breast Cancer Haven is the charity that supports women through their breast cancer treatment. When breast cancer tries to rob a woman of her individuality, her confidence or her strength, Breast Cancer Haven provides a tailored package of emotional, physical and practical support that helps her hold on to them."
