AN OTLEY sports club is en route to achieving 'premier' status.

Otley Badminton Club is working, with Prince Henry's Grammar School where it is based, towards gaining Badminton England Premier Club accreditation.

Clubs that obtain the accreditation receive extra support with things like development planning and submitting funding applications, and are also listed on Sport England's Club Matters website.

The Otley club's first step towards attaining the goal has been to provide additional junior coaching on Friday evenings, between 6pm and 7pm, in the main Prince Henry's sports hall.

A spokesman said: "This is all in the aid of getting more people into enjoying the fun and health benefits of playing badminton within a well organised and structured club environment."

The Friday night junior lessons complement the coaching run by the club at the same venue on Saturday mornings, between 9.15 and 10.45am.

Head coach James Dalby said he had been delighted by the take-up of new players at both sessions - and has room for more. He can be contacted on 07979 691128.

The club is also seeking adult members to play between 7.30pm and 9.45pm on Mondays or from 7pm to 9.15pm on Fridays.

Both social and league badminton is offered over four courts.
