YOUNG dancers from Wharfedale are celebrating world-class success in an international Championship.

Thompson Academy Irish Dancers took four local girls to the CRG World Irish Dance Championships in Mayo, Ireland at the end of October.

Seven year old Kaitlyn McCormick, from Menston, has returned as a World Champion after taking first place in her age group while 13 year old Jessica Heyburn, from Otley, secured a fourth place ranking.

Ten year old Ellie Fishwick, from Addingham and nine year old Gracie Horner-Glister, from Yeadon, meanwhile, both secured eighth place in their age groups.

Along with their world titles the girls also placed first, second, third and fourth in their solo rounds.

The Principal of Thompson Academy Irish Dancers Sylvia Thompson, said: "The girls were competing with the best of Irish dancers from around the world and we as an Academy can now boast World champions along with European, Scottish and British and Irish titles.

"They have worked really hard and are very committed to their Irish dancing.

"The girls attend two to three classes every week in Otley and the results prove that dedication and hard work does pay dividends."

The academy holds weekly classes in Otley and Horsforth.
