A LEVEL results at Horsforth School are significantly higher than the national average with more than a quarter at A* or A.

The school is celebrating a close to 100 per cent pass rate for the eighth consecutive year - with the typical student gaining the equivalent of three B grades.

Headteacher Dr Paul Bell said: "We are so proud of the fantastic results achieved again this year and our thanks go, not only to our students for their professionalism, but to our parents and carers who have been so supportive over many years and we wish our students all the very best of luck for their future."

Top achievers include 14-year-old Thomas Frith, former winner of Channel 4's Child Genius, who now has four A levels to his name. Thomas, who won the competition in 2015, already had A* grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and this year he has gained an A in Computer Science and a C in Additional Further Mathematics.

The teenager has been invited to the UK Mathematics Trust Olympiad Training Camp over the summer holidays, as one of the most able young mathematicians in the country.

Dr Bell said: "To say that Thomas is only just about to start Year 10 is amazing. We are really proud of what he has achieved and glad that we could support him to fulfil his desire to excel. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Thomas."

Other outstanding performances came from Victoria Daramy-Williams, Hannah Bainbridge, Rachel Brown and Anna Cartledge who all gained three A* grades. Victoria will study Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, Hannah will study Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham, Rachel will study Chemistry at the University of York and Anna is off to the University of Sheffield to study Medicine.

Dr Bell added: "We are so proud of all our A Level students but especially Victoria, Hannah, Rachel and Anna. It just shows what hard work and dedication can achieve and to gain three A* grades at A Level is exceptional. We are beyond proud and know that the girls will go on to have very bright futures."
