A SAFER Cycling Routes leaflet is to be produced for Otley.

The Town Council agreed a budget for the initiative at its Environment and Sustainability Committee meeting on Monday.

Designed to encourage more short-journey cycling to reduce car use, the leaflet will feature a map showing various back street routes around town.

Its details have been drawn together by Town Councillor Mick Bradley (Green, Danefield) and the three Otley and Yeadon ward Councillors.

Council Chair Councillor Ray Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield) said: "To promote this leaflet some short social guided rides will be organised by Cllr Bradley and myself in conjunction with colleagues at Otley Cycle Club, and these will be scheduled for early September to encourage families to try out easier and safer routes for cycling.

"We will do a short print run for the Autumn and review the map, and interest, in the Spring of next year when it is hoped the Ashfield 20mph zone will be in place and can be added to the map"
