A YOUNG mountain runner from Blubberhouses will represent England next week.

Sixteen year old Euan Brennan is part of a four-strong team running for the country in the European Mountain Runing Youth Cup, in Italy, on Monday, June 26.

The Giggleswick School pupil gained automatic selection for the honour after winning the U19 England selection race at Hutton Roof in May.

He said: "I went to the U19 race hoping to get into the top four so to have won feels really good.

"The whole team are pretty close as we have been racing together all season, so going to Italy should be fun!

"It feels like such an achievement after I missed the trial race last year."

Shortly after England Athletics confirmed Euan’s selection he and fellow 16 year old Giggleswick School pupil Tom Humphries, from Hesket Newmarket, ran in the final race of the FRA English Championships.

Euan has finished first in the league and so is officially the U17 English Fell Champion, while Tom finished seventh.

Director of Sport at Giggleswick School, Dan Cook, said: "Both boys have trained incredibly hard and had a terrific running season.

"Everyone is very proud of them and we are delighted Euan is representing England, he really deserves it."
