A GARDEN party in Horsforth has raised £3200 for two charities.
The event was organised by Paul Shagouri whose wife Chris died from ovarian cancer two years ago. It took place at their home in the garden Chris had loved creating from scratch.
After her diagnosis Chris had worked with the charity Target Ovarian Cancer to raise awareness of the disease and the importance of earlier diagnosis. Their work resulted in the setting up of an All Party Parliamentary Group to highlight issues around ovarian cancer.
Money raised from the garden party will go to Target Ovarian Cancer and to the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, which supports the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit at the LGI. The couple’s granddaughter, Beth, was born with congenital heart defects and was successfully treated at the LGI.
Paul said: "Thankfully the weather was kind over both days and we had over 200 people and raised for the two charities around £3200.
"It was a nice community event with all age groups attending."
